Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy, also known as Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation, involves the use of specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function & promote healing. It is based on the principle that certain wavelengths of light can penetrate the skin and interact with cells, encouraging natural biological processes.

Red light therapy uses visable red light which ranges from 630 to 660nm and NIR light, which is just outside the range of visable light for us humans. This ranges from 810nm to 850nm. These ranges are said to be within the therapeutic window.

Benefits Of Red Light Therapy

Relieves pain & relaxes muscle tension from over use.

Aids recovery from connective tissue injuries (sprains & strains to ligaments & tendons).

Muscle Injuries (Strains & tears).

Relieves pain & relaxes muscle tension from over use.

Inflammation, pain, back pain & wounds.

Enhanced circulation by promoting vasodilation.

Non-Invasive Approach to Wellness

Red light therapy is a promising and non-invasive approach to promoting equine wellness and aiding in the management of various health conditions.

By incorporating red light therapy into a horse’s care routine, owners and caretakers can potentially enhance their equine companions’ overall well-being and quality of life. Remember that while red light therapy has shown many benefits, it is not a substitute for professional veterinary care. Always seek the advice of a qualified veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment of any health concerns your horse may have.

I currently use the following red light strengths during my treatments, these are currently the most studied wavelengths:

630 nm, 660nm, 850 nm, 910 nm & 1000nm (850 nm, 910 nm and 1000 nm are invisible to the human eye). Power density (Irridiance): 380 mW/cm2.
